Jason: Concerning the sitter planar analysis homework, I did have a sitter. I had him sit like that when I roughed in the sketch. When I started drawing the planes, he put his hand that way again.
Edited to add: Details are not "crap." I understand however that they have no place in Drawing 1, to an extent. I can't help but draw what I see. I feel that eliminating this "crap" is untrue to the environment in which the drawing is made. I get your argument, I suppose, but calling it crap is a little demeaning.

Mim, I hear you. And allow me to apologize for my use of the word "crap." I honestly don't recall that particular phrase, but I was hurrying through the critiques because time was short, so I don't doubt it. I have a tendency, especially when hurried, to used the word "crap" in the same way one might use the more neutral term "stuff." I certainly meant nothing derogatory in my statement, I assure you. I would imagine that it is obvious I get passionate when it comes to class and critique. So, when I get to your homework in critiques, I get particularly passionate, and here's why: You can draw well. I'm not disputing that. And you are very detail-oriented. There is also nothing wrong with that. But up until the last two homework assignments, it has felt as though you consider those minute details and the minutia that you find so interesting FIRST and the problem SECOND. I'm not trying to crush that spirit out of you, I just want you to see the value in problem-solving WITHIN the parameters of a given assignment. There will come times and places for everything you want to do. For now, you have your sketchbook (and, by the way, amazing sketchbook!) in which to purge all the things you feel are being restricted. I've gotten considerably more long-winded here than I meant to. Let me just sum it up this way: Forgive my thoughtless and hurried terminology in critique. I stand by my argument, however, and my only excuse for allowing the word "crap" to slip my tongue is that I am passionate and want to see you do well.

I understand, and thank you for the explanation. I agree with all that you said, pertaining to the details then problem approach. I confess, I did do that in the first two. I tried harder on the third interior to do everything first, and then come back in. But, once again, thanks for the response. I hear ya. Crap and stuff is definitely interchangeable, haha.
